Details about Grey Shark Slides:
Grey, the Smooth-Dog The grey smooth-hound is a species of houndshark found in the Gulf of California and the seas off the California coast. It is a bottom-dwelling species that is most often found in shallow waters (but specimens have been found as deep as 200 meters).
They have live births, as the name implies. Each female may have anywhere from two to five babies. They reach sexual maturity at about 70 cm in length and may grow up to 120 cm, with females being somewhat larger.
Despite being hunted for fun in California and illegally trapped in Mexico, their population is stable due to their high rates of reproduction. Scientists still need to keep a watch on them, even if they are no longer in danger of extinction.
Grey Smooth-hound Shark
Off the coast of Mexico, the grey smoothhound shark is both a target and a bycatch of trawl and gillnet fisheries, whereas in California it is captured incidentally. Despite ongoing fishing attempts, there is less evidence to suggest the extinction of this species. This shark is regarded to have a strong ability for recovery from fishing pressure because of its fast growth rate, early age at first maturity (about 2-3 years for females), and moderate fecundity (approximately 3-16 pups per litter). It also has a limited life expectancy of just around 9 years. There is no reason to believe that this species is in danger owing to its distinctive life cycle characteristics or its present population size, hence it has been classified as Least Concern. As long as fishing pressure is strong, it will be essential to measure catch levels and monitor changes in both catches and populations.
